Conference Presentation: Penn-Georgetown Digital Ethics Workshop
Michael Barnes presented at the Second Annual Penn-Georgetown Digital Ethics Workshop, March 29-30, 2024. The presentation (co-authored with Megan Hyska, Northwestern University) was titled “Interrogating Collective Authenticity as a Norm for Online Speech,” and it offers a critique of (relatively) new forms of content moderation on major social media platforms: those that target so-called ‘Coordinated Inauthentic Behaviour (CIB). The workshop convened a group of philosophers with interdisciplinary training who work on cutting-edge topics in digital ethics. There were eight talks by digital ethics scholars, and eight corresponding commentators. The event was sponsored by the Center for Digital Ethics at Georgetown University.
