MINT Secures ~USD1m Grant for Language Model Agents Research

The Machine Intelligence and Normative Theory (MINT) Lab at the Australian National University has secured a USD 1 million grant from Templeton World Charity Foundation. This funding will support crucial research on Language Model Agents (LMAs) and their societal impact.

Led by Dr. Seth Lazar, the project will focus on anticipating LMA impacts, developing normative foundations, and proposing interventions for a safe, decentralised LMA economy. By combining AI ethics, philosophy, and computer science, MINT aims to explore LMAs' potential to shift online power dynamics and increase individual agency.
