Legitimacy, Authority, Democracy, Explanation, in Oxford Studies in Political Philosophy
Seth Lazar has a new paper forthcoming in the Oxford Studies in Political Philosophy entitled “Legitimacy, Authority, and Democratic Duties of Explanation”.
The paper argues that governing power has a publicity requirement: that it can be widely known and challenged if need be. However, the increasing employment of opaque computational systems risks making the satisfaction of this publicity requirement impossible.
