Glen Berman is a final-year PhD student at the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Australian National University (ANU). Glen works at the intersection of Infrastructure Studies and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI), focusing on the construction of AI as a research field and practice. Through active collaborations with sociologists of expertise, computer scientists, and human-computer interaction researchers within and outside of academia, Glen contributes a sociological lens to the development of Responsible AI interventions. Glen’s research has been published in Big Data & Society and presented at the CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems and the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society. Alongside his PhD research, Glen is also a Senior Research Officer on the AI as Infrastructure project at the HASS Digital Research Hub at ANU, and was previously a Student Researcher at Google Research’s Responsible AI and Human-Centered Technology research group. Prior to commencing his PhD, Glen completed a Masters in Applied Cybernetics at ANU. Before that, Glen helped lead technology-driven social change organisations in Australia and the United States.
