Nick is an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at the University of Maryland at College Park working primarily in Moral and Social Philosophy. During a six-month residential fellowship at the Center for Artificial Intelligence Safety in San Francisco in Spring 2023, he developed a research project on the role(s) that large-language models can and ought to play in psychological research and another on whether such models safely benefit humans when they're designed to be truthful, honesty, or trustworthy. More recently, Nick has thinking about how attributions of responsibility might differ between artificial and biological procreative decisions and also the very idea of an artificial moral conscience.
