Jen Semler

Jen is a PhD candidate in philosophy at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on artificial moral agency—including questions about the nature of moral agency, the possibility of AI systems becoming genuine moral agents, and the normative implications of artificial moral agency and artificial moral (non-agentic) behavior. She also works on projects in experimental philosophy and intergenerational ethics.

Jen is affiliated with the MINT Lab, the Oxford Institute for Ethics in AI, and the Oxford BioXPhi Lab. She holds an MPhil in philosophy from the University of Cambridge, an MA in medieval Icelandic studies from the University of Iceland, and a BA in philosophy and public policy from Duke University.
