Luke Thorburn (➞ lukethorburn.com) is a PhD student in computer science at King's College London. His core interests lie in the intersection: algorithms ∩ conflict. Currently, his research focuses on how recommender systems can be used to mitigate political polarization and conflict risks, an idea that is sometimes called bridging-based ranking. He also co-authors the Understanding Recommenders blog of the Center for Human-Compatible AI (CHAI) at UC Berkeley, and is a member of the GETTING-Plurality Research Network at Harvard.
