Abbas' interests lie in the philosophy of science, epistemology, cognitive science, and political philosophy. Currently, Abbas is working mostly on the epistemology and the political philosophy of machine learning and AI. Within his interest in the epistemology of machine learning, he is interested in the question of explanation: Can ML models provide explanations for scientific inquiry? Precisely what sort of explanations are these? Within his interest in the political philosophy of machine learning, he is interested in formulating a working conception of 'informational injustice,' or injustice that is caused due to informational asymmetries between agents.
Abbas has worked in NGOs in India, primarily on the political economy of data, gig-work, and data infrastructures. He has a background in physics, and his currently pursuing his PhD in philosophy at the University of Oregon.
