Zhihe (Vincent) Zhang is a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the Australian National University, where he also completed his Bachelor of Arts (with Honours in Philosophy). His thesis focuses on the philosophy of introspection, a branch of the philosophy of mind that explores how individuals represent their own mental states. He is primarily interested in the transparency account of introspection, according to which one’s beliefs about their mental states are formed by applying certain epistemic rules, such as ‘if P, believe that you believe P.’ Upon joining the MINT Lab, Vincent would like to explore the possibility of how these philosophical theories of introspection might help interpret language models. He also takes a general interest in the social and moral questions raised by these systems.
